The Mercury 15hp is a brand new motor for racing.  The way this motor works is you purchase the specified fishing model and then buy a racing conversion package.  You can buy this direct from APBA or find the parts on your own.  To buy it brand new from APBA is $1995 US.  In JH and JR classes, a restrictor plate is placed behind the carburetor to limit its speed to about 35 MPH for the youngsters. Very little can be done to “hop up” this motor after the conversion.  It is designed for the lighter driver (under 160) who wants pull and go equipment. Some blue printing is allowed to this engine.

It uses the same power head with a special direct drive lower unit coupled to a short mid-housing with above the water exhaust.  In JSH and JSR classes, a restrictor plate is placed behind the carburetor to limit its speed to about 35 MPH for the youngsters. Very little can be done to “hop up” this motor. It is designed for the lighter driver (under 160) who wants pull and go equipment. Some blue printing is allowed to this engine.

The Mark 20H was the most popular class in Stock Outboard racing in the 60’s and 70’s. Now a collectable, still being raced at C.B.F. sanctioned events and the occasional Special Event race in the U.S. It has above the water exhaust headers that gives it the true noise of a racing machine. An exhilarating ride like no other. If you like to tinker, and want to own a piece of history this could be the one for you!

An older model made and raced in Japan, they were then sent back to the factory, reconditioned and sold in North America. They are made bullet proof so they last. It uses rope pull start with no recoil and has a built in fuel tank. Yamato’s are mode as a racing motor from top to bottom. This motor is economical, has high amounts of torque and corners very fast.

The motors of this series are very similar to each other, with the 302 being the newest model and having electronic ignition. A very reliable Japanese made motor. A very powerful motor with lots of torque makes it a good choice for the medium to heavy driver. 302's can be purchased new and race in there own class which is great for new drivers, the C2H class.  The 302 can also race in the CSH class which has more participants and on average a higher caliber of driver.  Also in a few minutes a restrictor plate can be installed on the 302 and it then can be raced in the 20SSH class, making this motor the best bang for you dollar.  I believe they start at about $1700 US new!!.
